A bit about my business for reference
The business that I run is a graphics company that creates professional Memorial videos, Company Logos, Advertisements/Web Graphics, and Photo Edits. The name of my business is Memorywalk and other than my family and friends there is nothing I am more proud of. I have finally gotten the ball rolling and I look back and find myself very glad that I didn’t give up due to all the hurdles that were put in my way in the last 8 months. I did pretty much all the development for my Ecommerce site myself, starting out with some basic html knowledge. By the end of the 8 months I became extremely knowledgeable with different programming languages and pretty much learned how to develop my own back-end website. Even though you don’t have to be an expert developer to start an online business it sure does help to know someone who can. If you personally need help with getting an ecommerce site up and running a person like myself or a close friend are great resources to help you along the way.
I will use my business as a reference throughout my Blog posts and if anyone else that had similar/different experiences than me I welcome you to talk about your specific experiences as well.
Some of the major choices i had to make when starting up my company was:
- To make my business a corporation or sole proprietorship
- To incorporate a payment solution right on my site or use a payment solution like PayPal
- How detailed i wanted my testing for my site to be
- What type of uploading software to use
- What hosting company to use (I have switched from my original, and i know I am not alone on that one.)
And that’s just to name a few! I strongly recommend you to follow along with this Blog post if you are serious about starting up your online business. Tips and certain sites that can help you along the way become essentials after finding them.
***My Tip for the day is to MAKE BACKUPS of absolutely everything you do. Buy an external hard drive - you can get a good size one (500 GB) from NCIX.com or newegg.com for $100 when they are on sale. Seagate hard drives seem to be most peoples favourite and they come with a 5 year manufacturer warranty. Also make sure it runs at the least 7200 RPM. The fine details about a hard drive is what counts, not what any salesman tells you. The reason i say make backups for everything is because things break, virus attacks are common, and things just happen. If you are planning on running a small business doing backups once a week is mandatory.
As we go along i will discuss further on making the backup process because it really is that important.
