The First Impression

If you are reading this Blog for the first time what is your first impression? The popular term “The First Impression” is important in all facets of relationships, whether its business or personal. It’s so important that it usually takes much time and effort to heal a bad first impression. In the new Web 2.0 era many people are experiencing their first impression with brands online. It’s not with a hand shake and a smile, its with a splash page, virtual tour guide, or some nifty graphic design. What blows me away is how many companies online do not pay attention to how good or bad their first impression really is. The later being most cases.

If I were to meet you in person for the first time and throw in 2-3 advertisements so I can make some money, would you really trust me? If I asked you to sign up for a newsletter that I am not even sure you want, would you value what I had to say? Some people will just say that’s good marketing, but something tells me the people that are saying that are hard sales professionals instead of inbound marketers. Inbound marketing is something I am rather passionate about. To me, I see it as the smart and long term path of sales for any business. There are very few people who like to cold call thousands of people just hoping they can sell something to anyone. Inbound marketing starts with a first impression and is based on getting a product or service into the hands of people who could actually use what you have to sell.

I love the challenge of setting up websites to give that first impression to their clients that they want to give off. It is a rather difficult task but most inbound marketing techniques are difficult. If you are thinking of bringing your business online or creating a brand experience online, please make sure to think about the impression you’re giving your potential clients.
